Police seized £32,700 (€45,000) from Cristiano Ronaldo’s mum after she tried to leave Spain without declaring the cash. Dolores Aveiro was stopped at Madrid Airport and forced to hand the money over after Civil Guard officers discovered the fortune in her hand luggage, leading Spanish daily El Mundo claimed this morning. The newspaper said the mum-of-four, who lives between her native Madeira and Madrid, had the cash confiscated after being unable to prove its origin. Dolores, who helps Cristiano raise his four-year-old son Cristiano Jr, is said to have been allowed to fly to Portugal with the remaining £7,280 (€10,000) she was carrying. The incident reportedly happened in mid-May. It’s not a matter that we’ll get involved in.” A spokesman for the Agencia Tributaria, Spain’s equivalent of the Inland Revenue, said: “We can’t comment on individual cases. “We can confirm though that the limit on moving cash or cash equivalents to and from Spain is €10,000 and anything over that amount must be declared using the correct form.” In pictures: Ronaldo on holiday in Saint Tropez Cristiano Ronaldo on holiday Saint Tropez VIEW GALLERY Travellers entering or leaving Spain with more than this sum have to declare the money under a new anti-money laundering and tax evasion law introduced in 2007. The declaration has to be made in writing using a form which can be downloaded from the internet or obtained from Treasury and customs offices. Cash seized from those who breach the rules is held until they can prove its origin and pay a fine. Cristiano’s mum was not arrested and simply retained for a few minutes before being allowed to continue her journey, El Mundo reported. The breach was described as an “administrative error” rather than a crime. Initial reports on the split claimed the Real Madrid striker had dumped his girlfriend of five years when she refused to attend his mum’s 60th birthday party on New Years Eve. Irina, 29, denied she had any problems with Cristiano’s family and has since dropped heavy hints the footballer was unfaithful without ever naming him. In an interview with Spanish society magazine Hola last week, published after claims she dumped Cristiano when she discovered a string of inappropriate text messages to other women on his phone, she said: “You have to be faithful to your other half and not have secrets. That’s my rule.” GettyWaste of time: Shayk has slammed Ronaldo Describing her perfect partner as kind, amusing, honest and faithful, she added: “Sometimes we waste our time hoping and thinking that a person can change, when what you have to do is concentrate on yourself and move on.” Dolores revealed in an official biography released last year she flew to the States to pick up Cristiano’s son from a hospital in Florida after he was born. She also admitted the youngster, whose birth has been shrouded in mystery, had no idea who his mum was. Dolores’ biographer Paulo Sousa Costa also revealed she had made a failed attempt to abort Cristiano, drinking warm beer and running till she dropped after a doctor refused to help her interrupt her fourth pregnancy. The mum-of-four, whose alcoholic husband Dinis died of liver disease in September 2005, spends most of her time near to her son on a VIP estate in Madrid where Gareth Bale also has a home so she can help raise Cristiano Jr. In pictures: Ronaldo on holiday in France Ronaldo on holiday in France
