Major attention has been paid in the UK to the so called ‘Shanghai method’ of teaching, with a maths teacher exchange now entering its second phase. The exchange involves top Shanghai teachers visiting the UK to share their world-class approach. In November 2014, 29 visiting maths teachers spent a month working in primary schools across England to help introduce techniques such as focusing on fewer topics and whole class progression. See if you can match a Chinese 10-year-old with our Shanghai based maths quiz below These questions are derived from the Shanghai teaching curriculum, with the first four being at grade four level (9-10 years) and the remaining six at grade five level (10-11 years). Not all of these questions would be presented in multiple choice format in reality.Click & Close Ads
