Sergio Aguero does not only smash “strikers of the year” Diego Costa and Harry Kane in the goalscoring stakes … he is streets ahead of the ALL the Premier League greats. The argument has been raging on social media over Aguero’s omission from the PFA’s team of the season – and the fact that he has not been voted into that XI at all in his four seasons in English football. Kane and Costa were picked by their fellow professionals as the two best strikers in the Premier League this season – even though Aguero’s 25-goal haul has left Spurs man Kane (20) and Chelsea ace Costa (19) trailing in his wake.Aguero underlined his status as the best in the country, and one of the best in the world, with his third hat-trick of the season – and a virtuoso performance – as City beat Queen’s Park Rangers 6-0 on Sunday. Some Chelsea fans have pointed out that Costa has been injured for a large part of the season, and that his 19 goals have come in 24 appearances. But Aguero was also out for a month, sustaining a knee injury that brought an abrupt halt to his stunning run of 11 goals in nine league games, a spell in which he also sank Bayern Munich with a hat-trick in the Champions League. If you boil it down, Aguero has scored a goal every 94 minutes this season, some distance ahead of Costa on 103 minutes, and way ahead of Kane’s 120 minutes. But Aguero does not just score goals. He can claim seven assists this season, as many as Costa (3) and Kane (4) put together, and his passing accuracy is also ahead of his rivals, with 84.8 per cent of his passes reaching their target against Costa’s 75.7 per cent and Kane’s 72.9 per cent.Given those kind of stats, it is bordering on criminal that Aguero has not been recognised by the PFA this year. But he has been the best striker in the Premier ever since he arrived at City in 2011.
