The “Art Pop” singer shed her high-concept look in favor of Hollywood glam to sing hits from the beloved musical
Lady Gaga captivated at the Oscars on Sunday night, singing a medley of songs from “The Sound of Music,” bringing a crowd of A-listers to their feet with her voice.
The singer usually plays in the abstract with her wardrobe, concert sets and song lyrics, but at the Academy Awards she brought a gown, a wide smile and her incredible pipes.
As the Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer classic turns 50 this year, Scarlett Johannson introduced Gaga to sing songs from the film like the eponymous title number, “Edelweiss,” “My Favorite Things” and “Climb Every Mountain.”

Following the set, the whole of the Dolby Theater stood, as cameras showed emotional crowd reactions from Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lopez and Meryl Streep. Afterward, Andrews emerged to receive Gaga and present Best Original Song.
“Dear Lady Gaga, thank you for that wonderful tribute,” Andrews said, “it really warmed my heart. It’s hard to believe that 50 years have gone by since that joyous film was released. I blinked and suddenly here I am.Click & Close Ads

Other notable musical performances from the evening included those from Adam Levine and Maroon 5, Tim McGraw saluting Glenn Campbell and The Lonely Island proving everything really is awesome.Lady Gaga made a surprise appearance on the 2014 Oscars. Just hours before the Academy Awards, word spread that the singer would attend the ceremony in Los Angeles. It is still unclear whether she plans to present or perform during the show.
Of course, the bigger question is what Lady Gaga would wear at the Academy Awards red carpet. But her outfit was surprisingly tame. She wore a metallic pink Versace gown along with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and Brian Atwood shoes.
Still, we were expecting more from Lady Gaga on at the 2014 Oscars, especially since she is no stranger to making headlines with her red carpet outfits. Just a few months ago at the YouTube Awards, the singer showed up with fake yellow teeth, a black hat, dark round sunglasses and a leather shirtdress.
