Why Alexis Sanchez makes the list Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said the Chilean international has had the best debut season enjoyed by any overseas player in the history of the Premier League, and it may be hard to argue with that assessment. After turning down an offer to join Liverpool last summer, Sanchez wasted little time in establishing himself as the key man for his new club, as he scored the goal that got Arsenal through a tight Champions League playoff game against Besiktas. The quality of the goals he produced in the months that followed constantly took the breath away. His relentless willingness to work for the Arsenal cause has been an example to those around him and even when Wenger admitted his star turn was "in the red zone, physically" and in danger of picking up an injury, his performance levels barely dropped. Arsenal knew they were signing a top-class operator when they won the race to sign Sanchez from Barcelona last summer, but he has exceeded all expectations and confirmed his world-class status is more than justified. -- Kevin PalmerClick & Close Ads Click & Close Ads The stats that tell the story - Scored 24 goals in all competitions this season, becoming the first player to score 20 or more goals in his debut Arsenal season since Thierry Henry had 26 in 1999-00. - Led Arsenal and tied for sixth in the league with 78 chances created this season. - Ranked second in the league with 1,366 touches in the attacking third, trailing only Eden Hazard's 1,639.Arsenal's real star man has been last summer's marquee signing, Alexis Sanchez. Even when the Gunners were dangerously out of sorts back in the autumn, he helped them through with a series of dazzling individual displays." -- James McNicholas, May 2015. "Sanchez is a world-class player with a rare attitude for a player with such natural ability. He runs, tracks back, works hard and even protects his full-back. I did an interview with Kieran Gibbs recently, and the Arsenal left-back was quick to point out that Sanchez never needs telling." -- John Cross, February 2015. "He's played in four separate roles for Arsenal: up front, as a No. 10, from the right and from the left. He's capable of coming short to become involved in build-up play, or sprinting in behind the defence." -- Michael CoxClick & Close Ads Click & Close Ads
